{"id":13657,"date":"2019-09-05T22:10:56","date_gmt":"2019-09-05T22:10:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/?p=13657"},"modified":"2019-09-05T22:10:58","modified_gmt":"2019-09-05T22:10:58","slug":"nbaa-to-bestow-highest-honor-on-aviator-businessman-philanthropist-ross-perot-jr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/national-news\/nbaa-to-bestow-highest-honor-on-aviator-businessman-philanthropist-ross-perot-jr\/%20","title":{"rendered":"NBAA to Bestow Highest Honor on Aviator, Businessman, Philanthropist Ross Perot, Jr."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) will\nbestow its 2019 Meritorious Service to Aviation Award, the association\u2019s\nhighest honor, to pilot, businessman and aviation champion Ross Perot, Jr. at\nthis year\u2019s NBAA Business Aviation Convention &amp; Exhibition (NBAA-BACE),\ntaking place Oct. 22-24 in Las Vegas, NV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ross-Perot-Jr.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13658\" width=\"310\" height=\"162\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ross-Perot-Jr.png 800w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ross-Perot-Jr-300x157.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 310px) 100vw, 310px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Perot is a longtime pilot and aviation advocate, who served\nmore than eight years with the U.S. Air Force, and later led a 14-year effort\nto establish the U.S. Air Force Memorial in Washington, DC. In 1982, he\nco-piloted a Bell 206L-1 LongRanger II dubbed the \u201cSpirit of Texas\u201d on the\nfirst round-the-world flight by helicopter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, Perot serves as chairman of The Perot Group, a\nfamily-based investment operation, and he serves as founder and chairman of\nHillwood, a global real estate development firm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through Hillwood, Perot drove the development of Fort Worth\nAlliance Airport, which over the past 30 years has grown into a vital business\naviation and industrial transportation center for the region, and a model\nfacility being emulated elsewhere. Hillwood also frequently operates its\nbusiness airplanes on humanitarian missions into challenging situations around\nthe world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cRoss is not only an aviation pioneer in his own right, but\nalso an outstanding citizen, businessman and leader with a tremendous life\nstory,\u201d said NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen. \u201cHe represents the very best of\nour industry, including its humanitarian values, and has been a tireless\nadvocate for the entire aviation community and a lifetime patriot for the\nUnited States.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recently, Perot has taken an active role in the development\nof urban air mobility, a fast-emerging transportation segment that also holds\npotential for business aviation uses, through a partnership with Uber Elevate.\nHe also serves as chairman for the EastWest Institute and serves on the boards\nof the Dallas Citizens Council, Vanderbilt University and the Smithsonian\nNational Air &amp; Space Museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First presented in 1950, the Meritorious Service to Aviation\nAward celebrates extraordinary lifelong professional contributions to aviation.\nRecipients of the honor are those who built the aviation industry, including\nbusiness aviation, from the ground up by virtue of a lifetime of personal\ndedication, and who have made significant identifiable contributions that have\nmaterially advanced aviation interests.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) will bestow its 2019 Meritorious Service to Aviation Award, the association\u2019s highest honor, to pilot, businessman and aviation champion Ross Perot, Jr. at this year\u2019s NBAA Business Aviation Convention &amp; Exhibition (NBAA-BACE), taking place Oct. 22-24 in Las Vegas, NV.
