Drone Summit Showcases Future of Transportation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The North Carolina Drone Summit and Flight Expo returned to\nGreensboro this week, bringing larger crowds and more hands-on experiences than\nbefore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More than 500 people from around the world attended over\nthree days, sharing their expertise and getting the chance to network with and\nlearn from others in the drone industry. The summit featured a full schedule of\nflight demonstrations, informative talks, panel discussions and exhibitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The N.C. Department of Transportation\u2019s Division of Aviation\nhelps host the summit to showcase the present and future of the drone industry,\nand to promote safe usage of drones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDrones are the way of the future, and the NCDOT wants to\nhelp businesses, government agencies and others learn how they can use this\nemerging technology to further their missions,\u201d said N.C. Board of\nTransportation Chairman Mike Fox. \u201cThis conference is our chance to come\ntogether and move the needle toward the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This was the second year for the drone summit. Last year\u2019s\nevent attracted about 300 people to Greensboro.&nbsp;\nMore people attended this year\u2019s event, which featured a few new\nattractions. In addition to outdoor flight demonstrations, organizers this year\nadded indoor technology demonstrations. The indoor demonstrations showcased\ncutting-edge hardware and software that improve data collection and analysis,\nmission planning and more. The UnmannedUp startup competition gave new drone\nbusinesses a chance to showcase their products, meet investors and compete for\na space at next year\u2019s summit. Also new this year, 50 students from North\nCarolina middle and high schools had an opportunity to see the exhibits and\nhear some of the speakers.
