{"id":13478,"date":"2019-08-12T19:43:42","date_gmt":"2019-08-12T19:43:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/?p=13478"},"modified":"2019-08-12T19:43:44","modified_gmt":"2019-08-12T19:43:44","slug":"national-aviation-hall-of-fames-spirit-of-flight-award-to-be-presented-to-martin-baker","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/ohio\/national-aviation-hall-of-fames-spirit-of-flight-award-to-be-presented-to-martin-baker\/%20","title":{"rendered":"National Aviation Hall of Fame\u2019s Spirit of Flight Award to Be Presented to Martin-Baker"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Board of Trustees of the National Aviation Hall of Fame\n(NAHF) has announced that its coveted 2019 Spirit of Flight Award will be\npresented to Martin-Baker Aircraft Company Limited (MBA) during the 57th Annual\nEnshrinement Dinner &amp; Ceremony to be held in Denver, Colorado at Wings Over\nThe Rockies Air &amp; Space Museum on September 28, 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Spirit of Flight Award qualifications include\norganizations that serve a special need of the nation and set high standards\nfor excellence in the utilization of aerospace assets.&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NAHF Chairman Michael Quiello shared, \u201cMartin-Baker\nindisputably sets the standard for ejection and crashworthy seats around the\nworld. From their early days developing and testing the company\u2019s first prototypes\nto today knowing that they have saved over 7,500 people around the world, MBA\u2019s\nexistence provides pilots worldwide a primary added layer of safety.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company employs over 800 people worldwide, with\napproximately 180 at Martin-Baker America headquartered in Johnstown,\nPennsylvania. MB America is responsible for the manufacture and assembly of\nescape systems and crashworthy seats for the US Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps\nand Army. MB America has over 5,000 seats in aircraft at 52 bases across 42\nstates. The Mk16 ejection seat is fitted in the T-38 and T-6 training aircraft,\nand the F-35. The entire fleet of US Navy aircraft with ejection seats have the\nMBA Naval Aircrew Ejection Seat (NACES). Over 2,500 American Airmen were saved\nduring Vietnam using MBA ejection seats, and since that time another 1,000\nAmericans have ejected in a variety of aircraft and have been safely returned\nto their families. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are extremely honored to have been chosen to receive\nthis award from the NAHF,\u201d said Andrew Martin, Vice President of Business\nDevelopment and Marketing for MBA. \u201cOur ethos is Engineering for Life and it\u2019s\nour vocation to build ejection seats that have saved over 7,500 lives around\nthe world. To be recognized for it in this way is magnificent indeed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Past Spirit of Flight winners include the WWII era \u201cFlying\nTigers,\u201d the Commemorative Air Force (CAF), the Women Air Force Service Pilots\n(WASPs), NASA, the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), and the Boeing\nCompany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The NAHF\u2019s Enshrinement is open to the public and\nreservations are available by advance purchase. Nearly 1,000 people are\nexpected to attend, including industry leaders and over a dozen returning\nEnshrinees, including Mission Control Specialist Gene Kranz, X-15 pilot\nastronaut Joe Engle, Apollo astronaut Walt Cunningham, space shuttle astronauts\nCharlie Bolden and Hoot Gibson, aviation visionary and test pilot Clay Lacy,\ngeneral aviation titan Dale Klapmeier and Tuskegee Airman Charles McGee. NAHF\ncandidates Rhea Seddon, Peggy Chabrain and Connie Tobias will also join the\ncelebration this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sponsorship is available at all levels and, while limited,\nincludes premium seating with other associated benefits; some levels include\ninvitations to the President\u2019s Reception.
