Chao has announced\nthat the Department will award $478 million in airport infrastructure grants to\n232 airports in 43 states, including American Samoa, Northern Mariana Islands,\nand Puerto Rico. This is the fourth allotment of the total $3.18 billion in\nFederal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airport Improvement Program (AIP) funding\nfor airports across the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/DOT-Secretary-Chao-1-819x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12845\" width=\"154\" height=\"193\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/DOT-Secretary-Chao-1-819x1024.jpg 819w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/DOT-Secretary-Chao-1-240x300.jpg 240w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/DOT-Secretary-Chao-1.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 154px) 100vw, 154px\" \/><figcaption><em>Sec. Chao<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cInfrastructure projects funded by these grants will advance\nsafety, improve travel, generate jobs and provide other economic benefits for\nlocal communities,\u201d said U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Selected projects include runway reconstruction and\nrehabilitation, construction of firefighting facilities, and the maintenance of\ntaxiways, aprons, and terminals. The construction and equipment supported by\nthis funding increase the airports\u2019 safety, emergency response capabilities,\nand capacity, and could support further economic growth and development within\neach airport\u2019s region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Airport infrastructure in the United States, with 3,332\nairports and 5,000 paved runways, supports our economic competitiveness and\nimproves quality of life.&nbsp; According to\nthe FAA\u2019s most recent economic analysis, U.S. civil aviation accounts for $1.6\ntrillion in total economic activity and supports nearly 11 million jobs. Under\nSecretary Chao\u2019s leadership, the Department is delivering AIP investments for\nthe American people who depend on reliable infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Airports can receive a certain amount of AIP entitlement\nfunding each year based on activity levels and project needs. If their capital\nproject needs exceed their available entitlement funds, the FAA can supplement\ntheir entitlements with discretionary funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the grant awards include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Casper\/Natrona County International Airports in New Mexico,\n$7.3 million \u2013 the grant funds will be used to repair the airport apron where\nthe aircraft park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gerald Ford International Airport in Michigan, $11.1 million\n\u2013 funds will help repair the airport apron where the aircraft park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Juneau International Airport in Alaska, $18.9 million \u2013 the\ngrant will fund the repair of Taxiways A and E, construction of a new Taxiway\nD1 to provide access to hangars, and the purchase of an emergency generator for\nthe airport during inclement weather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los Angeles International Airport in California, $2.4\nmillion \u2013 will receive funds to install sound insulation noise mitigation\nmeasures for residences near the airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Phoenix Deer Valley Airport in Arizona \u2013 the airport\noperator will use funds to construct Taxiway D to provide access to aircraft\nhangars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Click on the link below for a complete listing of grants:<a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/airports\/aip\/grantapportion_data\">https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/airports\/aip\/grantapportion_data<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine L.
