{"id":13376,"date":"2019-07-30T23:00:23","date_gmt":"2019-07-30T23:00:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/?p=13376"},"modified":"2019-07-30T23:00:26","modified_gmt":"2019-07-30T23:00:26","slug":"ncdot-wants-public-input-on-drones","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/north-carolina\/ncdot-wants-public-input-on-drones\/%20","title":{"rendered":"NCDOT Wants Public Input on Drones"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The North Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking public feedback on the use of drones, which are quickly becoming an important part of the state\u2019s transportation landscape. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/NC-Droneedit-5.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13377\" width=\"310\" height=\"204\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/NC-Droneedit-5.jpg 900w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/NC-Droneedit-5-300x198.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 310px) 100vw, 310px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>NCDOT\u2019s Division of Aviation launched an online survey this\nweek to gather peoples\u2019 comments on drones, or Unmanned Aircraft Systems\n(UAS).&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPublic input has been an important part of our program from\nthe beginning and will be even more important as we move forward,\u201d said Basil\nYap, UAS program manager for NCDOT. \u201cWe want to make informed decisions based\non what people in our state want and what they are concerned about.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NCDOT has been at the forefront of finding new and\ninnovative ways to use emerging drone technology to benefit people. This\nincludes using them to inspect bridges, monitor storm damage and deliver\nlife-saving medical supplies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The survey will ask peoples\u2019 thoughts and concerns about the\ncurrent and future applications of drones. It will include questions on noise,\nprivacy and safety issues, and the way drones can improve peoples\u2019 lives\nthrough the delivery of medical supplies, and assistance with search and rescue\noperations. The survey can be found online at www.ncdot.publicinput.com\/3139\nand takes only a few minutes to fill out.
