The\naward was announced on Thursday, June 6, 2019, at the Colorado Airport\nOperator\u2019s Association (CAOA) Spring Conference in Greeley, Colorado, and\npresented by Aeronautics Director David Ulane to Tony in Durango on July 18,\n2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Professional-of-the-Year-2019.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13353\" width=\"289\" height=\"302\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Professional-of-the-Year-2019.jpg 500w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Professional-of-the-Year-2019-287x300.jpg 287w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 289px) 100vw, 289px\" \/><figcaption><em> Tony Vicari (left) is presented the Colorado Airport Professional of the Year Award by Division Director, David Ulane. <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the first award of its kind presented by the\nColorado Division of Aeronautics that will annually recognize a Colorado\naviation professional who exhibits extraordinary dedication to their community\nand airport, as well as their outstanding contributions to the Colorado airport\nsystem. Individuals recognized as the \u201cColorado Aviation Professional of the\nYear\u201d demonstrate values that fall in line with the CDOT Division of\nAeronautics mission to advance a safe, efficient, and an effective statewide air\nand space system through collaboration, investment, and advocacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vicari is a 2008 graduate of Western Michigan University\nwith a B.S. in Aviation Science and Administration. He began working at the\nDurango-La Plata County Airport in 2014 as an Airport Operations\nSpecialist.&nbsp; Tony moved his way up\nthrough the ranks as Operations Manager, Interim Director, and finally becoming\nthe airport\u2019s Director of Aviation in April of 2017.&nbsp; For the past two years, Tony has successfully\nmanaged the airport\u2019s $3.6 million annual operating budget and a team of 24\nairport personnel. His notable efforts have also included a proactive approach\nto addressing the airport&#8217;s terminal needs and airport growth in a challenging\nfiscal environment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the 2013 Economic Impact Study of Colorado Airports, the\nDurango-La Plata County Airport was responsible for supporting 2,646 jobs,\nproducing over $95 million in annual payroll, while generating $282 million in\noverall annual economic output. An update to this study is expected to be\nreleased by the Colorado Division of Aeronautics in the Spring of 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Colorado Airport System consists of 74 public-use\nairports that support over 265,000 jobs, provide $12.6 billion in annual\npayroll, and $36.7 billion in total annual economic output for the State of\nColorado.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Durango-La Plata County Airport (DRO) Director Tony Vicari was distinguished as the \u201c2019 Colorado Aviation Professional of the Year\u201d by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) Division of Aeronautics.
