CAA-Quebec campaigned to make\nsure the new regulations would reflect public needs and will now work to get\nthe word out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To that end, CAA-Quebec is publishing a free guide to the\nairline passenger bill of rights that summarizes the scenarios, requirements,\nand compensation set out in the new regulations, backed by examples. The idea\nis to make sure travelers know whether they are entitled to compensation and\nwhat to do to claim it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Honorable Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport, said as\nCanada&#8217;s Minister of Transport, he was pleased to see the first phase of the\nAir Passenger Protection Regulations in effect. \u201cWith input from air travelers\nand the air industry, we have created a world-leading approach to air passenger\nrights that is clear, consistent, transparent and fair.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Airlines are now required to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Communicate information to passengers in a simple, clear\nway&nbsp; about their rights and recourses,\nand provide regular updates in the event of flight delays or cancellations;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Provide compensation of up to $2,400 for denial of boarding\nfor reasons within the airlines&#8217; control;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ensure passengers receive prescribed standards of treatment\nduring all tarmac delays and allow them to leave the airplane, when it&#8217;s safe\nto do so, if a tarmac delay lasts for over three hours and there&#8217;s no prospect\nof an imminent take-off;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Provide compensation for lost or damaged baggage of up to\n$2,100 and a refund of any baggage fees; and<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Set clear conditions regarding the transportation of musical\ninstruments as checked or carry-on baggage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CAA-Quebec is disappointed that only part of the traveler\nbill of rights is coming into effect this summer, and it&#8217;s not perfect.\n&#8220;Nevertheless, it&#8217;s a major step forward and Canada is at least catching\nup with the European Union and United States, which have had similar rules in place\nfor years now.
