{"id":13260,"date":"2019-07-06T16:48:01","date_gmt":"2019-07-06T16:48:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/?p=13260"},"modified":"2019-07-06T16:49:30","modified_gmt":"2019-07-06T16:49:30","slug":"canadian-government-investing-in-safety-at-kamloops-and-fort-smith-airport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/international-news\/canadian-government-investing-in-safety-at-kamloops-and-fort-smith-airport\/%20","title":{"rendered":"Canadian Government Investing in Safety at Kamloops and Fort Smith Airport"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On behalf of the Honorable Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport, announcements were made last week in regard to investments for both the Kamloops Airport in British Columbia and Fort Smith Airport in the Northwest Territories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An investment of $1.287 million was made to purchase an\naircraft rescue firefighting vehicle (ARFF) for the Kamloops Airport, which\nincludes an ARFF with a high capacity water tank and pumping output that can\nalso use foam concentrate and dry chemical fire retardants. The\nstate-of-the-art ARFF is critical in providing rapid and effective response to\naircraft emergencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kamloops Airport also recently received a replacement\nsnowplow truck with blade, valued at $130,000, which is used for airside snow\nremoval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to replace a snow blower at the Fort Smith\nAirport, an investment of $418,000 will be made which will allow for the\npurchase of a medium-sized, self-propelled model with a 2,500 horsepower\nengine, capable of removing snow from airside surfaces.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Our Government recognizes that local airports are\nmajor contributors to the economic growth and social well-being of smaller\ncommunities,\u201d said the Honorable Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn addition to supporting travel and tourism, local\nairports are key connectors for business, health care, social services, and\nemerging resource development sectors. These investments will improve access to\nsafe, efficient and accessible air transportation options, and will help us\ndeliver on our promise to build safer, healthier and stronger communities\nacross Canada.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Michael McLeod, a Member of Parliament for Northwest\nTerritories said the Fort Smith Airport is an important transportation center\nfor residents and businesses in their Territory. \u201cWell-maintained runways,\ntaxiways and aprons that are clear of ice and snow are key to ensuring safe\nusage by aircraft, passengers, and crews and help protect costly airport safety\nassets during airport operations.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On behalf of the Honorable Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport, announcements were made last week in regard to investments for both the Kamloops Airport in British Columbia and Fort Smith Airport in the Northwest Territories.
