Chao\ntoday announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will award $495\nmillion in airport infrastructure grants, the second allotment of the total\n$3.18 billion in Airport Improvement Program (AIP) funding for airports across\nthe United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/DOT-Secretary-Chao-1-819x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12845\" width=\"138\" height=\"172\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/DOT-Secretary-Chao-1-819x1024.jpg 819w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/DOT-Secretary-Chao-1-240x300.jpg 240w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/DOT-Secretary-Chao-1.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 138px) 100vw, 138px\" \/><figcaption><em>Sec. Chao<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis significant investment in airport improvements will\nfund construction and rehabilitation projects that will help maintain high\nlevels of safety in U.S. aviation,\u201d said U.S. Department of Transportation\nSecretary Elaine L. Chao.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There will be a total of 358 grants to 327 airports around\nthe country in 46 states and the Pacific Islands. Selected projects include\nrunway reconstruction and rehabilitation, construction of firefighting\nfacilities, and the maintenance of taxiways, aprons, and terminals. &nbsp;The construction and equipment supported by\nthis funding increase the airports\u2019 safety, emergency response capabilities,\nand capacity, and could support further economic growth and development within\neach airport\u2019s region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Airport infrastructure in the United States, with 3,332\nairports and 5,000 paved runways, supports our economic competitiveness and\nimproves quality of life.&nbsp; According to\nthe FAA\u2019s most recent economic analysis, U.S. civil aviation accounts for $1.6\ntrillion in total economic activity and supports nearly 11 million jobs.&nbsp; Under Secretary Chao\u2019s leadership, the\nDepartment is delivering AIP investments for the American people, who depend on\nreliable infrastructure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Airports can receive a certain amount of AIP entitlement\nfunding each year based on activity levels and project needs.&nbsp; If their capital project needs exceed their\navailable entitlement funds, the FAA can supplement their entitlements with\ndiscretionary funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Some of the grant awards include:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Atqasuk Edward Burnell Sr. Memorial Airport in Atqasuk, AK,\n$20 million \u2013 this grant funds runway, taxiway, and apron rehabilitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chicago O\u2019Hare International in Chicago, IL, $65 million \u2013\nfunds will be used for a partial reimbursement for the construction of Runway\n10C\/28C and Runway 9C\/27C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eagle County Regional Airport in Eagle, CO, $4.7 million \u2013\ngrants funds will be used to build a deicing facility for the airport.&nbsp; The new facility provides safety and\nenvironmental benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Phoenix Deer Valley Airport in Phoenix, AZ, $2.7 million \u2013\nthe airport will use funds to reconstruct Taxiway B3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>San Diego International Airport in San Diego, CA, $13\nmillion \u2013 funds will be used to rehabilitate several taxiways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sarasota\/Bradenton International Airport in Sarasota, FL, $8.7 million \u2013 grant funds will be used to update the airport\u2019s master plan, improve airport drainage, and rehabilitate Taxiway B and the Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting building. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Click here for a complete listing of grants: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/airports\/aip\/grantapportion_data\/\">FAA<\/a>  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine L.
