{"id":13162,"date":"2019-06-19T21:43:43","date_gmt":"2019-06-19T21:43:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/?p=13162"},"modified":"2019-06-19T21:43:44","modified_gmt":"2019-06-19T21:43:44","slug":"arkansas-governor-lockheed-martin-announce-142m-investment-new-jobs-with-expansion-at-camden-plant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/arkansas\/arkansas-governor-lockheed-martin-announce-142m-investment-new-jobs-with-expansion-at-camden-plant\/%20","title":{"rendered":"Arkansas Governor, Lockheed Martin Announce $142M Investment, New Jobs with Expansion at Camden Plant"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Governor Asa Hutchinson and officials with Lockheed\nMartin have announced at the Paris Air Show that the company is expanding its\ncenter of excellence in Camden, Arkansas, that produces the High Mobility\nArtillery Rocket System (MIMARS) and performs final assembly for Integrated Air\nand Missile Defense (IAMD) and Precision Fires products for U.S. and allied\nmilitary services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLockheed Martin is a leading technology firm with\nfacilities and clients around the world,\u201d said Hutchinson. \u201cLockheed\u2019s\ninvestment illustrates the fact that Arkansas continues to be a global player\nin the aero-defense industry.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The expansion will support new construction and improve\nexisting facilities for products like Terminal High Altitude Area Defense\n(THAAD), Army Tactical Missile System (ATacMS), Patriot Advanced Capability-3\n(PAC-3) and others, plus new machinery and equipment. Previously the facility\nwas dedicated to High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) production\nonly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company plans to invest $142 million and hire 326 new\nemployees over the next few years. There are approximately 700 employees\ncurrently in Camden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur facility in Camden is a highly efficient, high\nquality center of excellence that contributes components and performs final\nassembly for products that are important to the defense of the United States\nand a growing number of allied nations,\u201d said Frank St. John, executive vice president\nof Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. \u201cThe facility has a long record\nof precision manufacturing and on-time deliveries, which is the reason we\ncontinue to invest in and expand our Camden Operations. This expansion will\nhelp ensure the availability, affordability and quality of systems we build for\nour customers around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The private aerospace and defense industry employs about\n10,000 Arkansans and was the state\u2019s largest export in 2018, totaling $1.8\nbillion. The state is home to nearly 180 companies in the industry, which is\npart of why the governor, industry partners and Arkansas Economic Development\nCommission participate in the annual trade shows in Paris and London, said Mike\nPreston, currently AEDC executive director and Secretary of Commerce effective\nJuly 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe high-paying jobs Lockheed Martin provides in the\nCamden area improve the quality of life for our communities and the state as a\nwhole,\u201d said James Lee Silliman, Ouachita Partnership for Economic Development\nexecutive director, \u201cand we\u2019re thankful for their partnership in the Golden\nTriangle.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Calhoun County Judge Floyd Nutt said, \u201cI can\u2019t say enough\ngood things about the contributions Lockheed Martin makes in aerospace and\nmissile defense around the world along with our local economy.
