She was 67.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Carol-Branaman.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13046\" width=\"327\" height=\"327\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Carol-Branaman.jpg 720w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Carol-Branaman-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Carol-Branaman-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Carol-Branaman-60x60.jpg 60w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 327px) 100vw, 327px\" \/><figcaption><em>Carol Branaman<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Branaman was a beloved sister, union activist, and\nfriend. She gave her time, talent, energy, and leadership skills to her union,\nto better the lives and careers of her fellow controllers and aviation safety\nprofessionals. In 2000, Branaman was elected as Northwest Mountain Regional\nVice President (RVP), representing NATCA members in the states of Colorado,\nIdaho, Montana, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. She joined Executive\nVice President Ruth Stilwell, also elected in 2000, as the first two women to\nserve on the Union\u2019s National Executive Board. Branaman served two three-year\nterms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNATCA mourns her passing and extends our deepest\ncondolences to Carol\u2019s family and friends,\u201d NATCA President Paul Rinaldi said.\n\u201cThe energy she gave to the Executive Board was boundless, and the leadership\nand devotion she showed were inspiring to Northwest Mountain Region members.\nShe supplied a fresh, groundbreaking, and incredibly strong and dedicated voice\nto our Union at a time when we were growing and building our collective spirit\nand deep bonds of solidarity. Our Union is what it is today because of amazing\nleaders like Carol.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Branaman inspired other NATCA leaders who came after her,\nincluding Trish Gilbert, who has served as NATCA\u2019s Executive Vice President\nsince 2009.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;As a NATCA activist, I could not help but be in awe\nof Carol\u2019s leadership, tenacity, thoughtfulness and profound insight into\nNATCA\u2019s strategy and journey,\u201d Gilbert said. \u201cDue to her hard work and\ndedication, our beloved union is stronger, prouder and more diverse\ntoday!&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Branaman started her air traffic control career at\nDaytona Beach ATCT (DAB) and later transferred to Centennial ATCT (APA) in\nColorado. She was also a member of the NATCA contract negotiating team that\nworked on the landmark 1998 collective bargaining agreement with the Federal\nAviation Administration known as the \u201cGreen Book.\u201d That agreement marked the\nfirst time that a controller\u2019s union negotiated pay with its employer. The new\nsystem tied pay to air traffic operational complexity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cShe was a trailblazer,\u201d said NATCA\u2019s current Northwest\nMountain Regional Vice President Alex Navarro. \u201cNATCA is only in a position of\nstrength because of people like Carol. She is the exact example that we should\nstrive to be. She broke down barriers and never let others define who she would\nbe. She put herself out there when norms said she couldn\u2019t.
