{"id":13008,"date":"2019-06-04T15:57:11","date_gmt":"2019-06-04T15:57:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/?p=13008"},"modified":"2019-06-04T17:02:50","modified_gmt":"2019-06-04T17:02:50","slug":"faa-offering-new-partnership-opportunities-to-validate-key-drone-technologies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/national-news\/faa-offering-new-partnership-opportunities-to-validate-key-drone-technologies\/%20","title":{"rendered":"FAA Offering New Partnership Opportunities to Validate Key Drone Technologies"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>If your company is up for a challenge, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/uas\/programs_partnerships\/broad_agency_announcement\/\">partner with qualified commercial companies<\/a> who can match the agency\u2019s $6 million pledge to perform vital drone integration safety work at the FAA\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/uas\/programs_partnerships\/test_sites\/\">UAS test sites<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe FAA intends to bridge the gap between industry and the\ntest sites to tackle some of our most difficult technical and operational\nchallenges,\u201d said Acting FAA Administrator Dan Elwell at the FAA UAS Symposium\nin Baltimore.&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A June 3 Broad Agency Announcement (BAA), states that\napplicants must be able to match the federal funds they request through this\nprogram. A company has to demonstrate an existing contractual relationship with\nor show that FAA funding would enable it to enter into a contract with a test\nsite. Companies must have the technical capability to work on these essential\nintegration technologies:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Develop and enforce geographic and altitude limitations\n(Geo-fencing);<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Provide for alerts by the manufacturer of an unmanned\naircraft system regarding any hazards or limitations on flight, including\nprohibition on flight as necessary;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sense and avoid capabilities (DAA);<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond-visual-line-of-sight operations (BVLOS);<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Night time operations;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Operations over people;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Operation of multiple small unmanned aircraft systems;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unmanned aircraft systems traffic management (UTM);<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other critical research priorities; and<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Improve privacy protections through the use of advances in\nunmanned aircraft systems technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/faaco.faa.gov\/index.cfm\/announcement\/view\/33663\">application process<\/a> has two steps. Step 1 is a white paper package which is due by June 28, 2019. If that package is accepted, a full proposal must be submitted by July 31, 2019. The FAA expects to award contracts by September 30, 2019.
