These Colorado airports\ninclude the Alamosa-San Luis Valley Regional Airport (ALS), Eagle County\nRegional Airport (EGE), and the Wray Municipal Airport (2V5). Projects funded\nthrough the selected grants include runway reconstruction and rehabilitation,\nand the maintenance of taxiway, aprons, terminals, and related infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This funding is in addition to the $3.31 billion awarded in\nFAA Airport Improvement Program (AIP) funding during fiscal year 2018, and $205\nmillion awarded in the first portion of supplemental AIP funding in September\n2018.&nbsp; The construction and equipment\nsupported by this funding increases airports safety, emergency response\ncapabilities, capacity, and will support further potential growth and\ndevelopment within each airport\u2019s region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ulane.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12842\" width=\"266\" height=\"266\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ulane.jpg 300w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ulane-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ulane-60x60.jpg 60w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 266px) 100vw, 266px\" \/><figcaption><em>David Ulane<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Colorado Division of Aeronautics and Colorado\nAeronautical Board are fortunate to have an incredibly strong relationship with\nthe FAA. This collaboration directly enables the Division to fulfill its mission\nto advance a safe, efficient, and effective state-wide air and space system,\u201d\nsaid Colorado Division of Aeronautics Director David Ulane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) published a\nFederal Register notice on July 9, 2018, explaining the supplemental funding\nevaluation criteria and submission process. After the FAA awarded $205 million\nto 37 airports in 34 states in September 2018, airports in October 2018\nsubmitted additional funding requests for grant awards in fiscal years 2019 or\n2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The requirements under the Consolidated Appropriations Act,\n2018 include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Requiring the FAA to give \u201cpriority consideration\u201d to\nspecific types of airports (smaller and more rural airports);<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For non-primary airports, there is no local match required\nfor the work covered by the grant; and<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Requiring the FAA to obligate the supplemental funding by\nSeptember 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the Secretary\u2019s leadership, the FAA is administering\nthe supplemental funding to strengthen the safety and efficiency of America\u2019s\nairports. These investments increase the nation\u2019s competitiveness and improve\nthe quality of life for the traveling public. According to the FAA\u2019s most\nrecent economic analysis, U.S. civil aviation accounts for $1.6 trillion in\ntotal economic activity and supports nearly 11 million jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Colorado Airport System consists of 74 public use\nairports that support over 265,000 jobs, provide $12.6 billion in annual\npayroll, and $36.7 billion in total annual economic output for the State of\nColorado.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On May 15, 2019, the FAA announced the intent to award $779 million in supplemental federal infrastructure grants to 127 airports in all 50 states and Puerto Rico.
