These changes are based on pilot feedback and FAA\nreview of arrival procedure recommendations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The NOTAM, which is in effect from 6 a.m. CDT on Friday,\nJuly 19, until noon CDT on July 29, outlines procedures for the many types of\naircraft that fly to Oshkosh for the event, as well as aircraft that land at\nnearby airports. The NOTAM was designed by the FAA to assist pilots in their\nEAA AirVenture flight planning. This year\u2019s NOTAM cover features two photos:\nOne from the 1970 EAA fly-in at Oshkosh and a similar view at the 2018 event,\nshowing the event\u2019s huge growth over the past half-century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the 2019 changes include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c2\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; New\nprocedures for aircraft diversion to Fond du Lac (KFDL) in the event of airport\nclosure at Wittman Regional Airport (KOSH)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c2\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Removal of\nrestriction on transponder use<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c2\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; IFR routing\nchanges<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c2\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Multiple\nchanges in the ultralight\/homebuilt rotorcraft arrival and departure procedures<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other changes are part of the updated Oshkosh arrival \u201cbest\npractices,\u201c such as procedures to limit the impact of VFR mass arrivals;\ndevelopment of a text message system to keep pilots informed of KOSH current\nstatus for arrivals; and ATC utilization of a ground stop\/delay system out to\n150 miles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pilots can download a digital version of the NOTAM at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.EAA.org\/NOTAM\">www.EAA.org\/NOTAM<\/a>, or order a free printed copy via that website or by calling EAA Membership Services at 800-564-6322.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEAA and pilots offered numerous recommendations for the\nAirVenture arrival procedures, some of which were approved by FAA for 2019.\nIt\u2019s especially important all pilots flying to Oshkosh read and understand this\nyear\u2019s NOTAM,\u201d said Sean Elliott, EAA\u2019s vice president of advocacy and safety.\n\u201cIn addition, the FAA is establishing a safety risk management panel to review\nthe other recommendations, in which EAA will participate.
