Forty-one projects totaling a combined award of $5 million\nhave been granted for the Kansas Airport Improvement Program (KAIP) funding for\nplanning, constructing or rehabilitating public use general aviation airports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The aviation industry represents $20.6 billion economic impact\nand employs more than 92,000 Kansans. In addition, 94 percent of the state\u2019s\npopulation is within 30 minutes of air ambulance operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are proud of the collaboration between our department\nand airport sponsors to increase safety, enhance economic development and\nsupport the transportation needs of Kansans,\u201d said Secretary of Transportation\nJulie Lorenz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The KAIP program requires airport sponsors to share in\nproject costs by paying a portion of the total project. The KDOT Division of\nAviation, which manages the program, considered 119 project applications this\nyear with a combined total value of more than $29 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cKAIP has not only funded key improvements at local\nairports, it has helped create a statewide aviation network that enhances both\nthe health and economic wellbeing of the entire state,\u201d said Bob Brock, KDOT\nDirector of Aviation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
