The Unmanned Safety Institute (USI) has announced their collaboration\nwith Textron Systems to implement Aerosonde\u00ae Small Unmanned Aircraft System\n(SUAS) operator training into university curriculums, helping prospective\nunmanned systems operators with certification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

USI will implement its safety education and skill-based\ncurriculum and training frameworks to provide certifications in collaboration\nwith select technical colleges and universities, offering qualified students\nthe opportunity to participate in unmanned aircraft training in accordance with\nTextron Systems\u2019 training standards, backed by more than 1 million UAS flight\nhours. Textron Systems and USI will work together to ensure that the new\nprogram offers resources that support classroom and flight activity directly\nrelated to Textron Systems\u2019 unmanned aircraft systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

USI\u2019s professional aviator-oriented safety education and\nskill-based certifications will be considered prerequisites for learners to\nparticipate in on-site training with Textron Systems at their Unmanned Systems\nService & Support center in Blackstone, Virginia, with the intent to\nprepare students for a future career as an unmanned aircraft systems operator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThrough this collaboration, students participating in this\nunique experience will be prepared for graduation and employment within the\nunmanned systems industry,\u201d says Textron Systems Vice President of Tactical\nMission Systems Chris Mallon. \u201cOver the past couple years, we have seen an\nincreased demand for Aerosonde SUAS operations, making this certification\nprogram an extremely valuable asset for those wishing to join the Textron\nSystems team.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The strategic agreement creates an employment pipeline not\nonly for college students but also for secondary students, exiting military\npersonnel and adult learners interested in pursuing an unmanned career pathway.\nStudents interested in the new program will be able to use traditional student\nfinancing, financial aid, and GI Bill financing to cover the cost of all\ntraining and increase accessibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
