{"id":12654,"date":"2019-04-23T13:23:12","date_gmt":"2019-04-23T13:23:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/?p=12654"},"modified":"2019-04-23T13:23:14","modified_gmt":"2019-04-23T13:23:14","slug":"angelina-county-airport-named-2019-most-improved-airport-by-txdot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/texas\/angelina-county-airport-named-2019-most-improved-airport-by-txdot\/%20","title":{"rendered":"Angelina County Airport Named 2019 Most Improved Airport by TxDOT"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Texas Department of Transportation presented the 2019\nMost Improved Airport honor to officials of the Angelina County Airport at the\n37<sup>th<\/sup> Annual Texas Aviation Conference held last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Using an airport improvement program grant from TxDOT, the\nairport began an ambitious project to improve pavement surfaces removing and\nreinstalling portions of a taxiway, and asphalt around existing hangars.\nPavement rehabilitation was completed on all remaining taxiway and runway\nsurfaces that were not replaced. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To top off the new pavement rehabilitation project, all\ntaxiways and both runways were repainted.&nbsp;\nEnsuring the work was built to last, extensive drainage improvements\nwere made that included the installation of new drains for the taxiway and\nhangars, and improving drainage around airport grounds<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The airport also utilized Routine Airport Maintenance\nProgram grant funding for self-service fuel pumps, hangar repairs and upgrades,\nfuel tank electronic repairs, security cameras, and airfield lighting\nimprovements. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The county pitched into the airport improvement effort by\nreplacing hangar flooring, and asphalt at the ramp entrance gate.&nbsp; The county also played a large role in\nhelping the airport prepare for a large airshow that numbered 12,000 people by\npreparing roads and fields for attendees.&nbsp;\nFinally, county funds were supplied for a tractor and cutter to help\ntrim the 300 trees along the entrance road.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also contributing to the airport\u2019s enhancement was the\nExperimental Aircraft Association, who provided funds for tool and oil storage\nbuildings and built three pavilions for public use, such as enjoying lunch at\nthe local caf\u00e9 while watching planes. The Experimental Aircraft Association\nalso provided funds for the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster memorial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis year\u2019s most improved airport epitomizes true teamwork,\nas they utilized their available resources to completely revamp an airport\nthat, over time, has become popular for business aviation, training, and\nrecreational flying,\u201d said Dave Fulton, Director of the TxDOT &nbsp;Aviation Division. \u201cCongratulations and thank\nyou for your commitment to service.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Texas Department of Transportation presented the 2019 Most Improved Airport honor to officials of the Angelina County Airport at the 37th Annual Texas Aviation Conference held last week.
