{"id":12638,"date":"2019-04-22T16:18:22","date_gmt":"2019-04-22T16:18:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/?p=12638"},"modified":"2019-04-22T16:18:24","modified_gmt":"2019-04-22T16:18:24","slug":"dee-howard-foundation-holds-san-antonio-aviation-and-aerospace-hall-of-fame-awards-dinner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/texas\/dee-howard-foundation-holds-san-antonio-aviation-and-aerospace-hall-of-fame-awards-dinner\/%20","title":{"rendered":"Dee Howard Foundation Holds San Antonio Aviation and Aerospace Hall of Fame Awards Dinner"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>To honor San Antonio\u2019s Aviation and Aerospace History, the\nDee Howard Foundation (DHF) joined together, in collaboration with other local,\nstate, and national partners, to organize the San Antonio Aviation and\nAerospace Hall of Fame 2019 Awards Dinner, which took place on April 4<sup>th<\/sup>.\nThe event was hosted by GDC Technics at their state of the art hangar at Port\nSan Antonio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/20190404_202548edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12640\" width=\"290\" height=\"167\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/20190404_202548edit.jpg 600w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/20190404_202548edit-300x173.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 290px) 100vw, 290px\" \/><figcaption><em>Keynote Speaker, Dr. Bonnie Dunbar.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The event, attended by nearly 700 people, including seventy-five\nstudents and educators, featured the induction of 2019 honorees and the\npresentation of the second annual DHF STEM Education Excellence Award (SEEA). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Attendees enjoyed a reception with entertainment provided by\nthe 323D Army Band, dinner with the presentation of the Colors by the 433rd\nColor Guard and the singing of the National Anthem by country music singer and\nsongwriter Rebecca Henricks. There was also a display of current and vintage U.S.\nmilitary and civilian aircraft including a C-5, F-16, and F\/18-Super Hornet.\nThere were also exhibits by some of DHF&#8217;s education partners, including the\nBlue Sky Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was an absolutely fantastic event,\u201d said Lee Siudzinski,\nExecutive Director of the Blue Sky Foundation and board member of the National\nCoalition for Aviation and Space Education (NCASE). \u201cI was provided a booth and\nwas able to share materials about NCASE and the Blue Sky Foundation \u2013 there was\na lot of interest.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Lee-and-Wayne.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12641\" width=\"190\" height=\"254\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Lee-and-Wayne.jpg 500w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Lee-and-Wayne-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 190px) 100vw, 190px\" \/><figcaption><em>Dr. Lee Siudzinski, left and Wayne Fagan.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Attendees, came from throughout Texas, Wisconsin, Alabama\nand Washington D.C., and included three former astronauts, two Tuskegee Airmen,\nand at least three members of the San Antonio City Council.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Art A. Hall, Councilman District 2 and Mayor Pro Tem of the\nCity of San Antonio, opened the 2019 Awards Dinner and Bonnie J. Dunbar, PhD was\nthe Keynote Speaker. Dr. Dunbar is the TEES Eminent Research Professor at Texas\nA&amp;M University-College Station, Texas, a five-time Shuttle Astronaut and former\npresident &amp; CEO of the Museum of Flight in Seattle, Washington. Richard\nPerez, President and CEO of the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, was the MC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/20190404_214207edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12642\" width=\"358\" height=\"174\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/20190404_214207edit.jpg 500w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/20190404_214207edit-300x146.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 358px) 100vw, 358px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe mission of The Dee Howard Foundation is to nurture our\ninnovators of the future,\u201d said Wayne I. Fagan, Chair of the Dee Howard\nFoundation. \u201cOur capstone event each year is to host students, teachers, principals,\nand superintendents at our annual Hall of Fame Awards Dinner, where we induct a\nnew class of honorees into the San Antonio Aviation and Aerospace Hall of Fame.\u201d\nThe inductees this year were Earl and Tom Slick, Gen. Mark A. Welsh III, and Lt.\nCol. Francis R. (Dick) Scobee.
