Scott Crossfield Aerospace Education Teacher of the Year\nAward, which includes a cash stipend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Founded in 1986 by famed research test pilot, the late A.\nScott Crossfield, the award is a juried competition open to current classroom\nteachers from grades kindergarten through twelfth grade from any public,\nprivate, parochial or charter school. Nominees can also be teachers in a\nnon-traditional teaching setting. Nominations will be examined by a review\ncommittee of aerospace and education professionals for documentation of a\nteacher\u2019s effectiveness, creativity and ability to maintain high standards for\ntheir students and themselves with aerospace being the core subject matter or\ntheir curricula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scott Crossfield (1921-2006) was inducted into the NAHF in\n1983 in recognition of his contributions as a naval aviator, aerospace engineer\nand test pilot. He was the first man to successfully fly at speeds above Mach 2\nand Mach 3; the first man to fly the X-15; and contributed to the safety of\nmanned spaceflight, among many other achievements. He established the award to\nrecognize dedicated and talented aerospace educators who; set high standards\nfor students and demand excellence in performance; strive to improve their\npersonal academic competence and teaching ability; perform their teaching\nduties in an exemplary manner, resulting in true learning by students;\ndemonstrate creativity in developing and utilizing materials to enhance the\nteaching of aerospace; maximize student involvement and gear activities to\nimprove learning or create and have developed a one-time project or program of\nsuch significance that it has a major impact on the teaching of aerospace\neducation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Crossfield Aerospace Educator of the Year will receive their award on September 27th at the President\u2019s Reception at the Boeing Blue Sky Gallery in Denver, CO. The award will be given by M\/Gen. Joe Engle, USAF (Ret), the last living X-15 pilot astronaut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2018 Teacher of the Year is Heidi Edwards from Dayton,\nOH. Edwards\u2019 accomplishments include utilizing her experience collecting and\nanalyzing data with NASA as a SOFIA Ambassador to work with Oakwood teachers to\ndevelop and ensure lasting engineering opportunities for her students and\ncreating and implementing exciting and engaging aerospace curriculum for Air\nCamp.
