Inouye International Airport (HNL) in Honolulu. Construction on the\nTerminal 2 panels began on Jan. 7, 2019, as part of HDOT\u2019s sustainability and\nenergy savings efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/HDOT-A-Parking-Garages-PV_1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12548\" width=\"360\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/HDOT-A-Parking-Garages-PV_1.jpg 800w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/HDOT-A-Parking-Garages-PV_1-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 360px) 100vw, 360px\" \/><figcaption><em> Aerial view showing the Terminal 2 garage solar panels at HNL in the foreground.  <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is our latest step towards sustainability at Hawaii\u2019s\nlargest airport, which sees more than 20 million passengers a year,\u201d said Gov.\nDavid Ige. \u201cContinuing our energy savings efforts at the Daniel K. Inouye International\nAirport is a significant step toward our state\u2019s 2045 clean energy goal.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The photovoltaic installation on the Terminal 2 garage is\nthe latest improvement as part of HDOT\u2019s Energy Savings Performance Contract\nwith Johnson Controls Inc. The 20-year contract, which began in 2014, is\nforecasted to result in $600 million in energy savings for the airports\ndivision through the life of the contract and is the largest single state\ncontract of its kind in the nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are thankful for the patience of the traveling public as\nwe make the improvements outlined in our Energy Savings Performance Contract,\u201d\nsaid Hawaii Department of Transportation Director Jade Butay. \u201cThe completion\nof this phase of photovoltaic panel installation, along with the previous\nimprovements, will reduce the airport\u2019s electric bill by nearly half.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/HDOT-A-Phase-2-PV_1-1024x685.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12546\" width=\"332\" height=\"221\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/HDOT-A-Phase-2-PV_1-1024x685.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/HDOT-A-Phase-2-PV_1-300x201.jpg 300w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/HDOT-A-Phase-2-PV_1.jpg 1400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 332px) 100vw, 332px\" \/><figcaption><em>Solar panels at HNL including on the Central Concourse in Terminal 2. <\/em> <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The 5th level of the Terminal 2 parking garage was closed to\nthe public when the installations began in January. As the project progressed,\nstalls were reopened for public use. As of midnight, March 29, 2019, all 410\nstalls are open and available to the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In total at Hawaii\u2019s airports, HDOT and Johnson Controls\nInc. are replacing nearly 98,000 light fixtures with high-efficiency\nlight-emitting diode (LED) technology and energy efficient lighting, upgrading\nventilation and air-conditioning systems and installing more than 24,000 solar\nphotovoltaic panels.
