(EAA photo)<\/em>  <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The headset donations, announced at the SUN \u2019n FUN Fly-In at\nLakeland, Florida, recognizes the importance of the Ray Aviation Scholarships\nof up to $10,000 from the Experimental Aircraft Association. Those scholarships\nallow young people to take flight training in their local regions. The Ray\nFoundation has provided $1 million to EAA to fund these scholarships for up to\n100 young people, as the program seeks to improve the flight training success\nrate from the current 20 percent level to 80 percent for those participating in\nthe scholarship program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEAA has successfully shown its commitment to growing\naviation through participation by young people in such programs as Young Eagles\nand now the Ray Aviation Scholarship initiative,\u201d said Allan Schrader, founder\nand president of Lightspeed Aviation. \u201cThe Lightspeed Aviation Foundation,\nthrough its 2019 Growth Initiative, wants to empower great programs, such as\nthis one from EAA, to make them even more effective in expanding and promoting\na vibrant pilot community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>EAA announced the first two Ray Aviation Scholarships\nrecipients in February. The program is managed by EAA and administered through\nits chapter network, which identifies candidates and mentors them through\nflight training. More than 200 EAA chapters from all regions of the country\nhave applied to participate in the scholarship program and mentor aspiring\npilots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe leadership of the Lightspeed Aviation Foundation in\nsupporting and encouraging efforts to grow the aviation community is an\nexcellent example of understanding the importance of focusing on new pilot\ngrowth,\u201d said Jack Pelton, EAA CEO and chairman. \u201cThrough programs such as Ray\nAviation Scholarships, our goal is twofold: To inspire and welcome more young\npeople who want to pursue their personal dreams of flight, and to boost the\nsuccess rate of those who begin flight training through consistent mentorship\nand recognition. An enormous thanks go to Lightspeed for its support.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A Lightspeed Zulu 3 headset will be awarded to each scholar\nupon completion of their solo flight and ground school requirements, as a step\ntoward ultimately completing flight training.
