{"id":12442,"date":"2019-04-01T23:59:11","date_gmt":"2019-04-01T23:59:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/?p=12442"},"modified":"2019-04-02T00:00:22","modified_gmt":"2019-04-02T00:00:22","slug":"kansas-state-polytechnic-to-host-flight-academy-for-high-school-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/kansas\/kansas-state-polytechnic-to-host-flight-academy-for-high-school-students\/%20","title":{"rendered":"Kansas State Polytechnic to Host Flight Academy for High School Students"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Kansas State Polytechnic is hosting Fly K-State Academy \u2014 a\nthree-day piloting program, July 22-25, for high school students entering their\nfreshman through senior year who dream about a future in aviation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this immersive experience, students will work with the\nKansas State Polytechnic Flight Team to complete four missions and earn 3 1\/2\nhours of flight time while staying overnight on campus and participating in\ngroup activities and outings around the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fly K-State Academy will educate aspiring pilots on the\nindustry standards required for completing a flight by grouping the training\ninto four different missions. In the first mission, students will participate\nin pre-flight inspection, airplane takeoff and landing, and traffic patterns;\nmission two will practice flight maneuvers; the third mission will focus on\ninstrument flight using simulators; and after competing in an E6B challenge,\nthe final mission will culminate in a cross-country flight to Wichita, followed\nby a celebration lunch at the famed Stearman Field restaurant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Academy students will stay in campus residence halls during\nthe sessions and will eat in the school cafeteria for an authentic look at\ncollege life. They will participate in various activities both in the campus\nStudent Life Center and offsite around Salina. On the final day of the program,\nparents and guests are invited to a graduation ceremony honoring the students&#8217;\naccomplishments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The cost of Fly K-State Academy is $1,200, which includes\ninstruction, meals, snacks, lodging, transportation, a logbook, an E6B\ncomputer, plotter, Wichita sectional chart, evening activities and a university\npolo.
