Students Claim National Aviation Art Contest Spotlight"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Two North Carolina students are soaring after their\npaintings celebrating flight earned them top honors in the 2019 National Aviation\nArt Contest and a chance to compete in an international contest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Kailyn-Becker-NC-2019edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12407\" width=\"256\" height=\"181\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Kailyn-Becker-NC-2019edit.jpg 700w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Kailyn-Becker-NC-2019edit-300x212.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 256px) 100vw, 256px\" \/><figcaption><em>Artist Kailyn Becker&#8217;s winning entry.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>First place in the Intermediate division (students born\nbetween 2005 and 2008) went to Kailyn Becker, who attends Lufkin Road Middle\nSchool in Apex. Jessica Wu, who attends Davis Drive Elementary in Cary, earned\nthird place honors in the Junior division (students born between 2009 and\n2012).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After placing in the top three of the N.C. Department of\nTransportation\u2019s State Art Contest, both students\u2019 paintings were sent on to\nthe national competition hosted by the National Association of State Aviation\nOfficials in Washington, D.C. Their art will now be sent to Switzerland to\ncompete in the F\u00e9d\u00e9ration A\u00e9ronautique Internationale\u2019s International Art\nCompetition. They also received cash prizes for themselves and their schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year\u2019s contest theme was \u201cMy Dream to Fly.\u201d NCDOT\nreceived a record 2,793 entries, more than any other state, from 243 schools in\n67 counties. A total of 5,816 students have participated in the N.C. Aviation Art\nContest over the last five years.
