The new tower\u2019s\ndistinctive design pays homage to over 100 years of aviation history at the\nairport and highlights San Antonio\u2019s aviation legacy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Stinson-IMG_3117edit2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12359\" width=\"215\" height=\"294\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Stinson-IMG_3117edit2.jpg 500w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Stinson-IMG_3117edit2-220x300.jpg 220w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 215px) 100vw, 215px\" \/><figcaption>S<em>tinson Municipal Airport control tower.\u00c2\u00a0Photos\u00c2\u00a0courtesy\u00c2\u00a0of\u00c2\u00a0TxDOT.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFriday\u2019s ribbon cutting was very nice,\u201d said Kari\nCampbell, Director of Grant Management for the TxDOT Aviation Division. \u201cThe\ncity had a beautiful day to officially dedicate the tower.\u201d&nbsp; Short speeches were provided by Rebecca\nViagran, City Council Member from District 3, City Manager, Erik Walsh, and\nGreg Miller from TxDOT. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tower\u2019s design is entitled \u201cWings over Stinson\u201d and\nhas integrated bi-plane wings reminiscent of the early days at Stinson along\nthe sides of the structure. At night the wings will be illuminated ensuring the\ntower\u2019s iconic look both during the day and at night. Stinson Municipal Airport\nis the second oldest continuously operated airport in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Refreshments were available and a mariachi band serenaded\nthe crowd.
