Photo by Kenn Potts.&nbsp;<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) Office of\nAeronautics has recognized the South Haven Area Regional Airport as the\nrecipient of the Airport of the Year Award General Aviation Airport Category.\nThis is an annual award to recognize outstanding service to Michigan Aviation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Michigan-AofY-2019edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12237\" width=\"300\" height=\"238\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Michigan-AofY-2019edit.jpg 500w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Michigan-AofY-2019edit-300x238.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption><em>Airport manager, David Johnson, left and Mark Noel, MDOT.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The award is presented in recognition of sustained excellence\nin contribution to aviation progress in the State of Michigan. The South Haven\nArea Regional Airport Authority and Airport Manager David Johnson are being\ncommended in particular for their responsiveness in implementing significant\nsafety enhancement projects to the runway approaches at South Haven Area\nRegional Airport &nbsp;and their dedication to\nairport operational safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The award was presented by Mark Noel, Manager MDOT Office of\nAeronautics Planning and Development Section to Mr. David Johnson, Airport\nManager at the 2019 Michigan Airport Conference on February 21 held at the\nKellogg Conference Center in East Lansing, Michigan.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Airport of the Year awards are based on\naccomplishments in the areas of community relations, airport management,\nairport maintenance activities, and innovative activities and programs\nimplemented at airports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are 234 airports across Michigan with 18 commercial service\nairports identified in MDOT air carrier data reporting with scheduled passenger\nenplanements.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pictured above are, from left, Jon Woodhams, South Haven Airport Authority, David Johnson, Airport Manager, Ron Wright, South Haven Airport Authority&nbsp;and Ross Woodhams, South Haven Airport Authority.
