{"id":12232,"date":"2019-03-10T17:56:22","date_gmt":"2019-03-10T17:56:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/?p=12232"},"modified":"2019-03-10T17:56:46","modified_gmt":"2019-03-10T17:56:46","slug":"boeing-partners-with-embry-riddle-to-offer-scholarships-for-future-pilots-and-aviation-maintenance-technicians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/aviation-education\/boeing-partners-with-embry-riddle-to-offer-scholarships-for-future-pilots-and-aviation-maintenance-technicians\/%20","title":{"rendered":"Boeing Partners with Embry-Riddle to Offer Scholarships for Future Pilots and Aviation Maintenance Technicians"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">Boeing has announced plans to establish a $3 million\npermanent endowment for scholarships at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University to\nassist students interested in pursuing a pilot\u2019s license and certificates in\naviation maintenance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Boeing scholarships at Embry-Riddle will seek to\nincrease the number of underrepresented populations in the pilot workforce,\nparticularly women and persons of color as well as veterans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The announcement was made during the 18th Annual U.S.\nChamber of Commerce Aviation Summit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Boeing, the world\u2019s largest aerospace company and leading\naircraft manufacturer, will collaborate with Embry-Riddle to make scholarships\navailable as early as this fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Boeing and Embry-Riddle share a deep commitment to\ndiversity and inclusion,&#8221; said University President Dr. P. Barry Butler.\n&#8220;Like the aviation industry, Embry-Riddle has a truly global presence. To\nmeet future workforce needs and accelerate innovation, it is critical that we\ntap into the entire potential talent pool. Transformative business solutions\nspring from diverse teams that empower many different perspectives around the\ntable. We are honored to partner with Boeing to provide educational\nopportunities for a broader spectrum of aspiring aviators.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Boeing&#8217;s 2018 Pilot &amp; Technician Outlook,\nthe industry will need 790,000 new civil aviation pilots and 754,000 new\nmaintenance technicians to fly and maintain the world fleet over the next 20\nyears. The forecast is inclusive of the commercial aviation, business aviation\nand civil helicopter industries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of the 609,306 pilots certificated by the U.S. Federal\nAviation Administration\u2019s Aeronautical Center in 2017, only about 7 percent, or\n42,694, are women, according to Women in Aviation International. Statistics on\nother underrepresented groups in aviation are limited, but a 2014 report\nsuggested that 2.7 percent of U.S. airline transport pilots were people of\ncolor, 2.5 percent were of Asian heritage, and 5 percent were Hispanic or\nLatino.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The $3 million award to Embry-Riddle builds upon Boeing\u2019s\nlong-standing support of STEM programs, women, military veterans and minorities.\nIn 2018 alone, Boeing contributed a record $284 million to build better\ncommunities worldwide.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Boeing has announced plans to establish a $3 million permanent endowment for scholarships at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University to assist students interested in pursuing a pilot\u2019s license and certificates in aviation maintenance.
