The proposal provides a solution for airports to\nuse Solar Roadways to generate clean, renewable energy on roadways and any\nother surface that can be walked or driven on. In addition to solar energy, the\nsolution embeds LED lights to replace paint in lieu of road lines and signage,\nhas an integrated heating component to prevent snow\/ice accumulation, and\nintegrates a stormwater capture system. The winning team includes Thierry Sarr,\nCM, Berg &amp; Associates\/Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA); Gareth Hanley,\nAICP, CM, RS&amp;H; Ken Coutain, Jr., Broward County Florida; and Marie Guittard,\nDY Consultants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first- and second-place teams presented their\nsubmissions at the 2019 ACC\/AAAE Airport Planning, Design &amp; Construction\nSymposium on Wednesday, February 20, 2019, to a panel of judges, who then\nconferred and announced the official winner at the Awards Luncheon on Thursday,\nFebruary 21, 2019. The panel of judges was made up of Jane Ahrens, Burns &amp;\nMcDonnell; David Kipp, Burns Engineering; and David Peshkin, Applied Pavement\nTechnology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Supported in part by the ACC Members Foundation, the\ncompetition is part of a larger program offered by the ACC Young Professionals\nForum as a means to engage the young professionals in ACC member firms and\nenhance their professional careers.
