{"id":12092,"date":"2019-02-25T01:52:46","date_gmt":"2019-02-25T01:52:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/?p=12092"},"modified":"2019-02-25T01:52:48","modified_gmt":"2019-02-25T01:52:48","slug":"aopa-announces-2019-partnership-with-great-lakes-drone-company","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/maryland\/aopa-announces-2019-partnership-with-great-lakes-drone-company\/%20","title":{"rendered":"AOPA Announces 2019 Partnership with Great Lakes Drone Company"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) has\nannounced its new partnership with the Great Lakes Drone Company, allowing AOPA\nto bring one-of-a-kind light shows to all three 2019 AOPA Regional Fly-In\nevents.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each light show presentation will include more than 80\nspecialized drone aircraft taking to the sky for an amazing and entertaining\nlight display, set to music. This partnership comes ahead of AOPA celebrating\nits 80th anniversary and continuing to make each fly-in a celebration to\nremember. AOPA in partnership with the Great Lakes Drone Company will present\nthe latest in drone entertainment at each fly-in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AOPA welcomed remote pilots into its membership in early\n2017 and continues to work with the FAA and others in the industry to ensure\nsafe integration of drones into the national airspace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDrones are ever-evolving and really becoming a valuable\npiece of our aviation ecosystem with technology to help advance several\nindustries,\u201d said AOPA Senior Director of UAS Programs Kat Swain. \u201cIt\u2019s an\nexciting time to partner with Great Lakes Drone Company and have them bring the\nlatest in drone entertainment and light shows to our events,\u201d Swain continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Great Lakes Drone Company created this brand-new twist\non the popular night airshow, adding unmanned aircraft to the mix for the first\ntime in 2018 at EAA AirVenture. The FAA granted the Michigan firm a waiver in\n2017, just the third of its kind, according to Great Lakes Drone Company\nDirector of Operations Matt Quinn. \u201cWe are excited to be part of AOPA\u2019s 80th\nanniversary celebration in 2019. It truly is a privilege to be a part of this\ncommunity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first of the shows, the 80th Anniversary Star Dance will\nbe at the AOPA Frederick, Maryland Fly-In on Friday, May 10 beginning at 9 p.m.\nThe performance will be the closing act for the show that evening following\nother aerial demonstrations, including the D-Day Squadron and a short takeoff\nand landing (STOL) invitational.
