The program is\nmanaged by EAA and administered through its chapter network. EAA chapters will\nbe responsible for identifying youths for the Ray Aviation Scholarship program\nand mentoring them through flight training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ray-Aviation-Scholarship-Max-Davidson-2019-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12023\" width=\"295\" height=\"176\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ray-Aviation-Scholarship-Max-Davidson-2019-1.jpg 732w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ray-Aviation-Scholarship-Max-Davidson-2019-1-300x180.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 295px) 100vw, 295px\" \/><figcaption><em>Max Davidson, 2nd from left.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThrough the generous gift of the Ray Foundation, aviation\nis a pathway to impart important life skills and introduce youths to aviation\nand aerospace careers,\u201d said Jack J. Pelton, EAA CEO and chairman of the board.\n\u201cThis grant furthers the legacy of James Ray, an EAA lifetime member who was\ndedicated to aviation and youth. Working with EAA chapters, we will grow this\ninitiative to help meet the tremendous future demand for pilots and associated\naviation careers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Blount was selected in conjunction with EAA Chapter 1240\nbased in Sebring, Florida. She attends Lake Placid High School in Florida and\nis enrolled in the aerospace course there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI have been introduced to the aerospace world through my\nhigh school,\u201d Blount said. &#8220;I think that learning to fly will broaden my\nopportunities in life, as well as grant me richer experiences.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Davidson, a student at Patriot High School in Jurupa Valley,\nwas surprised with the scholarship award during EAA Chapter 1\u2019s 65th\nanniversary celebration in Riverside, California.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI couldn\u2019t believe it when my name was called to be awarded\nthe scholarship,\u201d Davidson said. \u201cEAA members always told me if I was\ninterested, good things would happen \u201c\u2026 It\u2019s every dream come true!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scholarship namesake James Ray, who died in April 2017, was\na longtime supporter of EAA programs and youth initiatives. One of his most\nvisible areas of support was financing the EAA Air Academy Lodge that opened in\n1998. This residence facility supports the annual EAA Air Academy, the world\u2019s\nlongest running aviation youth camp, which is held in Oshkosh each summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>EAA chapters will play a critical role in the success of the\nRay Aviation Scholarship program. Chapters interested in participating must be\nprequalified by EAA through an application process. If selected, they will\nmentor and support the scholarship recipient throughout their flight training\njourney.
