The GPS Innovation Alliance (GPSIA) issued the following\nstatement, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the FAA\u2019s certification of the\nGarmin GPS 155, a device that for the first time enabled pilots to use Global\nPositioning System as their primary navigation source across all phases of\nflight \u2014 including approach to landing in poor weather conditions. Members of\nthe public may view the prototype, as part of the Time and Navigation\nexhibition at the National Air and Space Museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDuring the past century, GPS, along with other\ntechnologies, has revolutionized the aviation sector, making flying safer and\nmore efficient. Saturday marked a major milestone in the transformation of the\naviation sector\u2014the 25th anniversary of the Garmin GPS 155 receiving FAA\nTechnical Standard Order (TSO) authorization, the industry\u2019s first GPS receiver\napproved by the FAA as a primary navigation source for all phases of flight,\nincluding non-precision instrument approaches. We look forward to the FAA\u2019s\ncontinued modernization of America\u2019s air transportation system through the\nNextGen program.
