{"id":11848,"date":"2019-02-09T01:36:08","date_gmt":"2019-02-09T01:36:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/?p=11848"},"modified":"2019-02-09T01:43:38","modified_gmt":"2019-02-09T01:43:38","slug":"celebrity-judges-convene-for-oklahoma-state-aviation-art-contest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/oklahoma\/celebrity-judges-convene-for-oklahoma-state-aviation-art-contest\/%20","title":{"rendered":"Celebrity Judges Convene for Oklahoma State Aviation Art Contest"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission (OAC) hosted\n\u201ccelebrities\u201d from the Oklahoma aviation and aerospace community judge the 2019\nAeronautics Commission Aviation &amp; Aerospace Art Contest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The state-level art contest, sponsored by the OAC,\nencourages youth, ages 6 to 17, to reflect on aviation by designing a piece of\nart based on the year\u2019s chosen theme. This year\u2019s contest theme was \u201cMy Dream\nto Fly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the year 2014, 35 students participated. In 2015,\nthere were 85 entrants.&nbsp; A total of 132\nstudents contributed in 2016 and the contest yielded 1,112 entries from 73\nschools statewide in 2017.&nbsp; The entries\nfor 2018 accounted for 1,301 entries and 81 schools across the state. In 2019,\nthe agency received 1,220 entries from 86 schools.&nbsp; This year marks the most participating\nschools since the Commission began hosting the contest.&nbsp; The agency attributes their success to their\naviation art contest calendar which is mailed to all of the public and private\nschools across the state. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cRecently we learned from a comprehensive economic impact\nstudy of aviation and aerospace activity, that aviation and aerospace has\nbecome the second largest industry in the state providing over 206,000 jobs. We\nmust have skilled and competent workers for that industry to remain viable,\u201d\ndirector of aeronautics Vic Bird said. \u201cThe annual Oklahoma Aviation Art\nContest is critical to stimulating aviation interest among young minds.&nbsp; If we can reach them at the earliest of ages,\nwe can guide them into STEM based education and aviation and aerospace\ncareers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The judges included Brian Dahlvang, communications\nprogram specialist, FAA Monroney Center, who is also a graphic designer and\nartist; Aeronautics District 4&nbsp;\nCommissioner Lindy Ritz, former FAA (Federal Aviation Administration)\nMonroney Center director and current president of the Ritz Group who also\nserves as the assistant director of the FAA Center of Excellence, Brigadier\nGeneral Ben T. Robinson, former Commander, 552nd Air Control Wing at Tinker Air\nForce Base and owner of Century One, LLC; State Representative Tammy West from\nHouse District 84, who serves as an Assistant Majority Whip and the Majority\nCaucus Chair; Retired Army Chief Warrant Officer 5, Chase Rutledge, pilot and\njournalist for KOCO\u2019s Sky5 helicopter; Britton Lee, single and multi-engine\ncertified flight instructor and designated pilot examiner and airframe and\npowerplant mechanic; and Jeff James, vice president of aerospace education for\nthe Air Force Association Gerrity Chapter #215.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"550\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_9339edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11849\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_9339edit.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_9339edit-300x165.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><figcaption><em>Pictured left to right are, Brian Dahlvang, communications program specialist, FAA Monroney Center, Aeronautics District 4 Commissioner Lindy Ritz, former FAA Monroney Center director and current president of the Ritz Group who also serves as the assistant director of the FAA Center of Excellence, Brigadier General Ben T.
