The grants are an example of American\u2019s continued efforts to help grow and diversify the nation\u2019s pool of pilots.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe we\u2019re making the pilot profession more visible, accessible and obtainable to a broader range of people than ever before,\u201d said Captain David Tatum, Director of Pilot Recruiting and Development for American.<\/p>\n<p>Grants ranging from $5,000 to $25,000 will be awarded to 17 organizations throughout the U.S., many of which assist low-income and minority students. Those selected to receive awards proposed projects such as enhancing aviation-related curriculum by building flight simulators and aviation labs, adding dozens of computers for new pilot courses, and providing students with flight books, manuals, calculators, maps and plotters. This year\u2019s recipients:<\/p>\n<p>Ada City School District \u2013 Ada, Oklahoma<\/p>\n<p>Admiral Farragut Academy \u2013 St. Petersburg, Florida<\/p>\n<p>AOPA Foundation \u2013 Frederick, Maryland<\/p>\n<p>Community College of Beaver County \u2013 Aliquippa, Pennsylvania<\/p>\n<p>Civil Air Patrol \u2013 Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama<\/p>\n<p>CR Smith Museum \u2013 Fort Worth, Texas<\/p>\n<p>Davis Aerospace &amp; Maritime High School \u2013 Cleveland, Ohio<\/p>\n<p>Dixie County High School \u2013 Cross City, Florida<\/p>\n<p>East Syracuse Minoa High School \u2013 Syracuse, New York<\/p>\n<p>East High School \u201cT-STEM\u201d Academy \u2013 Memphis, Tennessee<\/p>\n<p>Infinity Flight Group \u2013 Trenton, New Jersey<\/p>\n<p>Joseph New Heights Aviation \u2013 Joseph, Oregon<\/p>\n<p>National Society of High School Scholars \u2013 Atlanta<\/p>\n<p>Patriots Point Naval &amp; Maritime Museum \u2013 Charleston, South Carolina<\/p>\n<p>Steubenville High School \u2013 Steubenville, Ohio<\/p>\n<p>V.R. Eaton High School \u2013 Haslet, Texas<\/p>\n<p>Wellsboro Area High School \u2013 Wellsboro, Pennsylvania<\/p>\n<p>With this news, American\u2019s Flight Education Grant program, now in its second year, has awarded 34 grants totaling $789,000 to flight schools, nonprofit organizations, and middle school, high school and college-level organizations that generate innovative and creative ideas for growing and diversifying the nation\u2019s pool of pilots.
