AIR FORCE SELECTS LUKE AIR FORCE BASE AS PREFERRED LOCATION FOR F-35 PILOT TRAINING CENTER

Arizona’s local and state government officials, as well as the Arizona congressional delegation, are delighted with today’s decision that the Air Force has selected Luke Air Force Base as the preferred location for the new F-35 Pilot Training Center.
With today’s decision by the Air Force, Luke is poised to transition from its current F-16 training mission to become the Air Force’s F-35 “school house,” subject to completion of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) process that is currently underway.“Today’s announcement is great news for our region and our state and represents a major milestone and the most critical stage in the F-35 site selection process,” said Glendale Mayor Elaine Scruggs.

“Although we realize there is more work ahead of us, we are extremely grateful to our state’s congressional delegation, the Arizona Legislature, Governor Jan Brewer, Attorney General Terry Goddard, and citizens and businesses for working closely with us to champion and support the F-35 coming to Luke Air Force Base through our Luke Forward campaign,” Scruggs said.

ADOT Reports "Good News" - Only $4.5 Million Transferred from State Aviation Fund

Although dollars from the state's aviation fund will continue to be used for non-aeronautical purposes, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) reported as good news that $2 million less was transferred out to help meet deficit woes.

The Arizona Airports Association (AzAA) reported recently that they received a response to a letter they sent last month to John Halikowski, Director of ADOT, objecting to a scheduled $6.5 million sweep of the State Aviation Fund.

Casey Denny, President of AzAA, said in an announcement to membership, that while disappointed that aviation funds are being used for non-aviation purposes, he was encouraged by several things outlined in or represented by the letter.

Thanks Dad!

I found my love for aviation when I was young because I was lucky enough to grow up around it.  I thank my Dad for sharing his love for flying and all of aviation, because now I share this love also.  One of the coolest things that I remember as a child was when my Dad would take me along on flights in small planes across Nebraska to different airports and events for the "fly in breakfast".  I always looked forward to those trips and would constantly pester my Dad by asking when we would have our next adventure flying in somewhere again to get my pancakes! It was a great joy getting to fly around with my Dad. I'm very thankful to have experienced that and look forward to doing it again someday!

These day's we still go to the air shows as much as possible, just not by flying.  I'm sure we'll get back to that someday soon though.  For now we enjoy road trips to the air shows, which includes 30 hour drives from Arizona to Wisconsin for the Oshkosh AirVenture. This has been an annual event for us the past 4 years and I always enjoy the great quality time that I get to spend with my Dad.  It's changed a little bit from when I was young though.  Now instead of flying in for great pancakes, we drive in for AirVenture and some great "Spotted Cow" beer!  Which is one of the many things me and my dad make sure to do while we are up there.

As much fun as it was to fly to these events, its just as fun to drive there with my Dad and to look at all the planes together.  But overall the best part of these adventures is the wonderful time I get to spend with him.

Thank you Dad for everything you've done for me and allowed me to experience over the years! Happy Father's Day!

Love you Dad!

AzAA Objects to ADOT Pending Sweep of 6.5 Million from Aviation Fund

In a recent letter to John Halikowski, Director of the Arizona Department of Transportation,  (ADOT), Casey Denny, (pictured) President of the Arizona Airports Association, (AzAA), objected to a planned sweep of $6.5 million from the state's aviation fund.
In his letter dated June 1, 2010, Casey noted that the Arizona State Legislature directed the sweep from ADOT's Equipment Fund, not the State Aviation Fund. Casey went on to say in his letter that the organization truly understands the critical [fiscal] situation the state is in, but as the advocate for airports in the state and as long as airport infrastructure needs are not being met, we must object to the use of any state aviation funds being used for non-aviation uses.
Casey's letter also noted that based upon the fact that ADOT is currently delaying payments to airports across the state for grants issued in past fiscal years, it is inappropriate to transfer funds out of the State Aviation Fund to meet a budget obligation imposed on an unrelated fund prior to repaying all outstanding reimbursement requests.
The State Aviation Fund receives revenue from various sources including Flight Property Tax, which is
