Three Washington State Airports to Receive FAA Airport Improvement Program Grants

Arlington Municipal, Skagit Regional and Grant County International Airports are among the 108 airports receiving (supplemental) Airport Improvement Program grants from the U.S. Department of Transportation and Federal Aviation Administration.

The airports, infrastructure improvement and grant amount are as follows:

  • Arlington Municipal, install taxiway lighting: $ 1.3 million
  • Skagit Regional, construct apron: $ 2.5 million
  • Grant County International, reconstruct runway: $ 8 million
  • Grant County International, reconstruct runway lighting: $ 2 million

Agencies with airport projects that have already completed planning and environmental analysis will be more likely to receive the supplemental grant funds.

“The robust economy is enabling more passengers to travel by air, so this administration is investing billions of dollars in America’s airports which will address safer airport operations, fewer airport delays, and greater ease of travel for air travelers,” said U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine L. Chao.

Aviation is an important part of economic growth – according to the FAA, U.S. civil aviation supports more than 5% of U.S. gross domestic product, $1.6 trillion in economic activity and nearly 11 million jobs.
