FAA announces new Alaska Regional Administrator

Kerry Long.jpg Kerry B. Long has joined the FAA Alaska Region as the new Alaskan Regional Administrator, effective June 29. Kerry previously served as Chief Counsel for the FAA from 2007 to 2009. Long returns to the FAA from the NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) where he served as the Designated Agency Ethics Official, responsible for establishing, maintaining, and carrying out the NTSB ethics program.

Ray Towles, Deputy Assistant Administrator for the FAA Regions and Centers Operations, reports that Kerry is passionate about aviation and has spent most of his 34 years in the legal profession focused on aircraft finance, aviation, and related fields. Prior to beginning his legal career, Kerry served in the U.S. Navy as a division officer and navigator, and rose to the rank of Lieutenant in addition to qualifying as a Surface Warfare Officer.

Long was proceeded as the Alaska Regional Administrator by Robert “Bob” Lewis who served 49 years as a federal employee.Lewis joined the FAA in Anchorage in 1966 after serving a tour with the U. S. Army. Prior to that, he served two years as a Cost Accountant with the Aerojet General Corporation in California. An accountant by training, Lewis held a variety of management positions within the FAA in the areas of Accounting, Budget, Airway Facilities, Resource Management, and Logistics.
