Runway Work Completed at Smith Field in Indiana

The rehabilitation of Runway 5-23 at Smith Field (SMD) has been completed and included recycling of the existing pavement to act as a stabilized base. According to the Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority, a new asphalt surface was applied over the entire runway.

Ninety five percent of the project was funded through the Federal Aviation Administration Airport Improvement Program using discretionary funds in the amount of $1,071,618. The project was under budget and was completed ahead of schedule.
